1.02 kg beaker containing 2.00 kg of oil (density = 916.0 kg/m3) rests on a scale. A 2.01 kg block of iron is suspended from a spring scale and completely submerged in the oil. Determine the equilibrium readings of both scales.

On the top spring scale, the force will equal equal to ||W_{iron}-F_b||. Need to look up iron's density to find its volume. Then ||F_b=\rho_{oil}gV_{disp}||.

A quick way to find the bottom scale reading can come from the free body diagram of the iron and oil as a system together. We know their total mass so we can find their total weight. The forces by the top spring scale and the bottom scale should sum to balance the total weight.
