I am really confused on how to do this question. I don't really even know where to start and would love an explanation on how I should approach a problem like this and where I should go.

Check the lecture notes posted on Carmen, we have an example almost identical to this problem. It is basically a sheet of charge and you would use Gauss's law to find the E-field. Take a Gaussian surface either a cylinder or a box with sides perpendicular to the sheet. Then calculate the total flux and charges included inside the Gaussian surface.

Okay that makes sense, but what about when you have a thick conducting wall in part c.  What changes do the wall being thick and a conductor make.
